A Bit Of HistoryFirst Call Nursing Services, Inc. opened its doors in Milpitas, California in 1988 with two objectives: 1) To expand career opportunities for nurses, and 2) To provide hospitals with qualified nurses capable of maintaining high standards of patient care. We operated out of our home office on Wellington Drive in Milpitas, providing Temporary Staffing services to acute hospitals and long-term facilities. We moved to our first official office in late 1989 and continued the perdiem part of our service. In 1997, FCNSI commenced Sponsorship of Foreign Graduates as part of a long-term intervention in the nursing shortage problem. To be competitive in the healthcare staffing market, we started providing Travel Nursing Services in 2000. In 2003, to initiate local placement opportunities for new graduates and inexperienced nurses, the No-Fee Placement Program was conceptualized. Finally, in 2006, we began to administer Care Giving at Home to accommodate private patient requests for care of their sick and/or aging loved ones.

As we diversified our services, we also extended our reach throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Utilizing the basic concepts that were begun in the Milpitas office, coverage of First Call's services to hospitals expanded in 2001 from Santa Clara county to San Francisco and Alameda. These offices opened as an Independent Management Business Operation (IMBO) which later all became Franchisees, a reflection of a business arrangement that allowed operational autonomy and increased geographical market coverage while upholding the standards First Call was beginning to be known for.

In 1998, our home office could no longer contain our growing needs, and we transferred to 1115 S. Park Victoria Drive in Milpitas and operated here for a decade. The Contra Costa office opened in 2002, followed by the San Mateo office in 2003. In 2007, the Alameda office started its operations as a new franchise. In the same year, during the hot month of August, the main office moved to its new building on 1136 Cadillac Court in Milpitas, boosted by the addition of new staff and renewed focus.

The year 2008 marks the 20th year First Call has been in business. We take pride in having been able to meet the demands of our client facilities as well as promote the well-being of our health and office personnel, merely by uncompromisingly maintaining standards of service both as a staffing registry and as an employer. We've made it through 20 years, and we continue to find areas where we can improve and grow as a company and a member of the community. We invite you to be part of this growth.
